In the Western World, Friday the 13th is claimed to be one of the most UN-luckiest days of the year. Many people, in our society, walk griped with fear on this day. I can recall watching the movie series ‘Friday the 13th’, as a young teen. For many years, the superstition of the day that occurred on the 13th day of the month would flood my mind with overwhelmingly negative and insecure thoughts. I did not have any logical or scientific explanation of my fear; other than being scared half to death of a masked man jumping out at me in the woods.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned a technique to counteract this superstition and choose to believe what’s ‘reality’ more than ‘fiction’. An idea that’s helped me over the years is to: Create a mental or physical blessing counter! I love doing this as it pulls my fantasy/ fictional state to a logical, truth, real/fact frame of mind. Truly leads my mind in the direction of positive focused thinking. “Being positive or negative are habits of thoughts that have a very strong influence on life”-unknown; we can certainly chose to be either.
The song that I’ve learned in Sunday School, as a little tot, sticks with me today and is a comfort…
Count your blessings…name them one by one…count your many blessings see what God has done!
Will you walk in fear this Friday?
